26 Oct FMG Railcar Maintenance Equipment– 2017
Monadelphous approached Cadia systems to provide conceptual designs and handling procedures which would allow them to undertake repairs to over 200 rail wagons at FMG’s Port Hedland Rail Maintenance Facility.
Prior to Cadia’s involvement in the project, wagons were removed from their bogies by use of shackles and crane lifts. Cadia undertook laser scanning of the wagons and designed a forlift attachment which enabled the wagons to be lifted in a matter of minutes from their boies and transferred to a wagon support frame for truck transport to the repair depot. From here the wagons were rotated using a novel rotator designed by Cadia into a side mount position which would assist in allowing repair work to be undertaken with the wagons on their side. This included plate and structural repairs and painting.
To facilitate storage of the wagins while being repaired, cadia also designed some concrete support structures that could cradle the wagins preventing them under cyclonic conditions from becoming airbore.
