Ventilation Systems

Cadia’s expertise on Local exhaust and Ventilation (LEV Systems) doesn’t stop at just blowing in cool air to your goldroom.

High velocities and uncontrolled air flows from randomly located air vents more often than not create cyclic air turbulence in goldroom environments. These can sweep up potential toxic metal airborne sediments from goldroom operations entraining them into the breathing air for operators.

Most metals have both Occupation Exposure Limits (OEL) for both inspirable dusts and those remaining on surfaces through skin adsorption contact. Additionally, there are Environmental emissions limits and they cover both highly toxic metals such as mercury, cadmium, arsenic and lead through to the more benign appearing silver.

Traditional goldrooms are littered metal dusts covering most surfaces and these pose a health risk to your workers. And under the Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations 1995 gold processing operators mandated to monitor their workers for contamination.

Additionally, different factors need to be considered in electrowinning areas where fresh air ventilation is required for personnel to minimise exposure to ammonia and aspirated caustic from electrowinning processes. Moving the gaseous contaminants around the goldroom randomly isn’t an adequate solution either as these can progressively build up and exceed STEL limit, particularly with ammonia as it settles in lower floor areas.

While traditionally goldrooms have been designed peacemeal with an additional of LEV components as a isolated consideration, Cadia’s technology can encompass full modelling considerations for all contaminants for full LEV design.

Cadia’s design philosophy employs both hygiene standard references such as the ACGIH and NOHSC, along with relevant Australian Standards and Mine regulations and guidance and combines this with Computation Fluid Dynamic modelling of goldrooms to engineer solutions that encompass the whole goldroom Ventilation and Extractions together to optimise air flows,
